The American Bulldog is a friendly, yet confident breed. They are the happiest when they are spending time with their owners working or with their families at play. This breed of dog bonds very strongly with their owners and family and will be protective of them.
The American Bulldog is defined by a strong, muscular build, with a large head and a short muzzle. Their coat is typically smooth and requires little maintenance. They come in the traditional colors of white with patches of red, black, or brindle. More recently they come in solid colorations of black, fawn, red, brown, and brindle. They are said to be slower to mature than other breeds so patience should be exercised with their training, especially from a younger age.
They are well suited for a variety of tasks to exhibit its intelligence, strength, endurance, and agility. This makes them serious contenders in obedience and agility games.
Origin of the American Bulldog
The American Bulldog originated in the United States in the early 1700s and is a descendant of the English Bulldog. they were bred as utility dog for around the farm, and to act as a family protector. It was exceptionally talented at catching feral pigs. The breed almost became extinct during World War 1 and 2 but was recovered and revived thanks to dedicated lovers of the breed.
