Being a hybrid, both the look and the character of
Bernedoodles can vary significantly. Size can also vary considerably depending
on whether the Poodle parent is standard, tiny or mini. The coats generally
range from curly to wavy and they don’t shed much, so they can be a good option
for people who have allergy issues. Some Bernedoodles will be pure black, but
it is also common for these dogs to be black and white, black and brown or
tri-color with a combination of black, brown and white. These dogs are
generally known for being friendly and good-natured. They love nothing more
than to spend time with their family. Bernedoodles are also very playful, so
owners should plan to have a play session every day.
Origin of the Bernedoodle
The Bernedoodle is a mix between a Bernese Mountain Dog and
a Poodle. Being a hybrid, they are relatively new. While this mix may have
previously existed by accident in the past, Bernedoodles were first
intentionally bred in 2003 at Swissridge Kennels. The intention of this pairing
is to breed high-quality companion dogs.
Is a Bernedoodle right for me?
If a Bernedoodle is your choice of dog, you will have a
companion that is both loving and loyal. These are great companion dogs and
they can integrate well with the life of a single person or a family.
