The Papillon-Bichon Frise hybrid is a small to medium-sized dog that is known for being sweet and friendly. They are intelligent dogs and they take well to obedience training and learning tricks. The only character issues are that they have a tendency to become very attached to the people in their lives. This can make them endearing, but they can have behavior issues is they are left alone too much of the time. When it comes to looks, this designer dog breed can vary significantly. The coat can be curlier like the Bichon Frise, but some might have straighter hair like a Papillon. It is also common for these dogs to have a coat that is somewhere in between. The dogs might also have the floppier ears of a Bichon or the large upright ears of a Papillon. White tends to be the dominant color of this hybrid, but it is also very common for these dogs to have the patterning of a Papillon with colors like brown, tan or red.
Origin of the Bichon Frise-Papillon
A somewhat rare hybrid, the Bichon Frise-Papillon mix is believed to have been first intentionally bred in the last few decades in the United States. Combining the traits of two breeds that are known to be people-pleasers, these dogs were bred to be fun and enjoyable companions.
