About Dalmatians

The Dalmatian is one of the most recognizable breeds due to its’ unique spotted fur patterns. Their coats are short and smooth with a white background and black or liver colored spots. Dalmations are highly-energetic, and love to run and play. Walking or running with them on a daily basis often meets their exercise needs. They are a highly intelligent breed and are easy to train through positive reinforcement. They happen to be very social and love to be with their people. When introduced early, they get along great with other dogs and even cats.

Origin of the Dalmatian

Dalmatians once held the occupation of coach dogs. Their job was to accompany horse-drawn carriages and guard the horses and gear while they were unattended. The origin of the Dalmatian’s association with the fire department lies in the 1800’s when the fire engines were pulled by horses. They were also popular amongst British Nobles because of their beautiful fur patterns.
