This breed is energetic and fun loving. They are an active breed and do well with a lot of stimulation. They make wonderful and loving family members. They are great with kids. However, they are not well suited to being companions for the elderly or living in smaller living spaces such as apartments.
The English Pointer also excels at various canine competitions such as obedience, agility, and in the show ring. They come in several coat colors and patterns including black, black and white, lemon, lemon and white, liver, liver and white, orange, orange and white. They can also have markings including black points, liver points, or even ticked.
Origin of the English Pointer
English Pointers or just “Pointers”, have been pointing for hundreds of years. Long ago this breed would hunt along side Coursing hounds. The Pointers would spot and point the prey and the hounds would capture it. In the 1700 with the introduction of guns in the 1700s, pointers became dependable gundogs, pointing out game birds and retrieving them for their owners.
