The Setter is a playful and affectionate companion. They are a fantastic family dog that will liven up any household that they are a part of. They will tend to have a puppy like personality into adulthood and are said to be slow to mature. They make good watch dogs and will let you know when a stranger is nearby but they are not the best guard dogs due to their very friendly nature.
The Irish Setter is considered to be one of the most beautiful dogs in the world. They have a silky coat that comes in a coloration ranging between red chestnut and mahogany.
Origin of the Irish Setter
The Irish Setter originated in Ireland around 1800. They were developed as a dog that could find hiding gamebirds with their excellent since of smell. Once the birds were found and flushed out they would lay down on their belly to signal to their hunter. This is called “Setting”.
