The Italian Greyhound can be recognized by it’s slender body with a long and pointed head. They look very much like a ‘miniature’ greyhound, but they are their own breed. Their coats are short and soft to the touch, with a variety of colors such as Red, Blue, Black, and Fawn. Italian Greyhounds are a very energetic breed who enjoys running, they can reach speeds up to 25 miles per hour. They need regular exercise and enjoy playing. They’re a very friendly dog and they’re great with children. They have a strong desire to be a part of their family and be with their people.
Origin of the Italian Greyhound
The Italian Greyhound originated around 2000 years ago around the time when the Roman Empire dominated the Mediterranean. They were a popular companion and status symbol for royalty and the wealthy. They were even a popular breed during the Renaissance, being depicted in various paintings. They are currently popular today as show dogs and agility sports such as lure coursing.
