One of the most defining features of the Old English Sheepdog is it’s shaggy coat. Their coats come in a variety of colors such as, blue or blue merle, grizzle, grey, fawn, and brown. The Old English Sheepdog is a fairly active bred, they often enjoy long walks. They’re also a highly intelligent breed who is capable of being trained for dog sports. They are a great family dog, and love to be with and around their people. With that being said they make great companions for older children. They will do best with other dogs if socialized at an early age.
Origin of the Old English Sheepdog
The Old English Sheepdog is a breed that sprang up in the late 1700s. Their primary job was to drive sheep and cattle from farm pastures to town. Some farmers even would trim their sheepdog’s coat to make yarn. One of the most well known Old English Sheepdogs was Paul McCartney’s Martha.
