Coming from two breeds from the toy group, the Papillon-Maltese mix, or Papitese, is a small designer breed. They have dense coats of medium-length to long hair and they do not shed a lot. With the Maltese parent, some of these dogs will be partially hypoallergenic. Most will have the furry, floppy ears of the Maltese parent, but it is not uncommon for some of these dogs to have the recognizable ears of a Papillon. These hybrids are known for being friendly, happy and affectionate, so they can make great companions. They are very social dogs, so they can get along with people and other dogs. The Papitese is also well-known for forming strong bonds with their favorite humans and they can suffer separation anxiety if left alone for too long.
Origin of the Papillon-Maltese
With the Papillon-Maltese, you have a mix of the two parent breeds. Most puppies are first-generation hybrids and there is not much information about when or where this pairing was first intentionally put together.
Is a Papillon-Maltese right for me?
If the Papillon-Maltese mix is your breed of choice, you will get a loyal dog that wants nothing more than to be close to its owner. While the affectionate nature is one reason why people love this hybrid, owners need to plan to have plenty of time to spend with the animal.
