The Samoyed is a breed of intelligent, powerful, and loving dogs. They love to be with their people and would protect them when they need to. Samoyeds are usually friendly to humans, other dogs, and even to strangers but they can’t resist chasing small animals like rabbits, cats, and squirrels. They are a gentle and very loyal group. Being a large, hard-working dog, they need to be kept busy. These fluffy pooches have the tendency to bark and howl a lot but they are smart and easy to train. Samoyeds have long, heavy, double-layer white coats which needs a lot of grooming. Their furs make them thrive in colder climates and sensitive to heat.
Origin of the Samoyed
The Samoyed is a breed of dog developed thousands of years ago by the Samoyed or Nenets — an ethnolinguistic group of people who inhabited southwest Siberia during the early times. These dogs were bred essentially as working dogs for reindeers. They were used to protect the Samoyed people from predators, haunt, herd reindeers, and pull sleds. Their very thick furs were used to keep people warm during the cold winter months
