The Schipperke is an alert watch dog that has no shortage of confidence and curiosity. They are protective and suspicious of strangers. They make excellent watch dogs and will fearlessly face down an intruder, alerting you that someone unfamiliar is lurking nearby.
This breed is characterized by its foxlike face, short back, and its lack of tail. They have dark oval eyes that twinkle with mischief. Their back has the appearance of being sloped from their neck to their hips. Their ears are erect, triangular and are always listening for strangers or small prey. This breed
Origin of the Schipperke
The Schipperke originated around the year 1000 in medieval Belgium. They were employed as watch dogs on ships which earned them the name “Little Captain” which in Flemish is Schipperke. They were also commonly used as ratters by tradesmen of the era.
Is a Schipperke right for me?
If the Schipperke is your breed of choice, you will look forward to knowing you can sleep easy. Your “Little Captain” will keep an eye out and watch over your home and your family like he did for the ancient Belgian ships of old.
