Shih Tzus are sturdy little dogs with a proud bearing. They are the happiest when sitting in your lap after a long day. They are extremely affectionate and thrive on being the center of attention from yourself or your family. However, for all the laying in laps that this breed tends to do, they are lively little dogs with enough energy to spare. They will love the occasional walk and regular play.
The Shih Tzu has a long luxurious coat that can come in many colorations including red and white, gray and white, black and white, and black. Their ears are short, wide, and blend into their long silky coat. Their eyes are dark, round, and expressive.
Origin of the Shih Tzu
The Shih Tzu is an ancient breed of dog, having evidence to support that its forbears hail from as far back as 8,000 BC. They were originally bred by Tibetan Monks and then given to Chinese royalty as gifts. It is one of the 14 oldest dog breeds known.
