The Smooth Fox Terrier was originally bred for fox hunting. It would find and flush foxes out of their hiding places. Today they have taken up new employment as family companions, however they are still occasionally used for hunting still in the United States.
This breed is highly intelligent and has a lot of energy. They require a lot of exercise and playtime, so they tend to do best with active families who enjoy going on outdoor activities quite often. They love children because the high energy play is right up their alley and these dogs are quite sturdy and make wonderful playmates. They tend to have a cheerful personality when around their people and families. They also make great watchdogs.
The Smooth Fox Terrier has a short and dense coat that comes in a variety of colorations including white, white and black, white and tan, and a tricolored white black and tan.
Origin of the Smooth Fox Terrier
The Smooth Fox Terrier was developed in England hundreds of years ago for the purpose of the now banned sport of Fox Hunting. This breed would travel with a huge pack of hounds to find and lead horseback British Gentlemen on a hunt across the countryside.
