The Standard Schnauzer is a highly intelligent, curious, and brave breed. They are obedient and easy-to-train dogs who always want to please their humans. They are friendly and affectionate to all members of the family but may be a little aggressive to other unfamiliar dogs. Standard Schnauzers are strong and protective. This breed is also adaptable to different kinds of living. They have wiry and hard coats that can be pure black or salt and pepper. These bearded canines may need some frequent grooming to keep their mustache clean and prevent tangles.
Origin of the Standard Schnauzer
The Standard Schnauzer, also called the Mittelschnauzer (medium Schnauzer), is the original stock from which the miniature and giant Schnauzers descend from. This breed was developed around the 14th-15th century in Germany and was formerly called the Wire-Haired Pinschers. They were initially bred as ratters, hunters, guardians, and herders at German farms. Schnauzers are known for their distinctive mustache or bearded muzzles. Standard Schnauzers were also used by the German army as dispatch carriers and aides for Red cross workers and during the World War I.
