Weimaraners are very energetic agile dogs and they’ll love to go on a run or even a quick swim. They love being with their people and they are great family dogs, they love children. They’re social dogs and need a lot of attention from their family. They love to please, but also tend to be independent thinkers who love to be engaged. Their coats are a silky silver grey that’s short and smooth with amber to blue-grey eyes.
Origin of the Weimaraner
Also known as Weimar Pointers this breed originated in Germany in the early 1800s. They were first bred be to be hunting dogs, often used to hunt big game such as bear, mountain lion and wolves. Later they found new purpose in being a hunter that points and hunts smaller game such as foxes, birds, and rabbits. They were first brought over to the United States by servicemen in World War II and the Weimaraner was the breed of President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s dog Heidi.
