The Wire Fox Terrier is an active dog with limitless energy. They have sturdy bodies, elongated face, and folded V-shaped ears. These short-backed hunter dogs are bold, alert, and quick. They are smart, curious, and sociable to family members but can be unwelcoming to other stranger dogs and animals. It is best to train them young as they can be a challenge to housetrain. These canines have rough, wiry, low-shedding coats that are easy to maintain.
Origin of the Wirehair Fox Terrier
The Wirehaired Fox Terrier or simply the Wire Fox Terrier, descended from the Rough-coated Black and Tan Terrier and was developed in the late 1700s in England. They were bred originally for the purpose of chasing small animals from dens and driving foxes out of their lairs. They are identical with the Smooth Fox Terriers except for their coats and crossbreeding of the two were discontinued in the early 1900s.
