About The Breed
The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier has a medium, square, and balanced build. He is characterized by his soft wavy coat that comes in various shades of wheaten (golden). They can also be found in black, white, gray, and red. As puppies, the Wheaten is often a darker color that lightens up over their first couple of years.
This breed is bright, intelligent, happy, and confident. They are very alert and make good watchdogs, but their friendly nature makes them fairly poor guard dogs. The Wheaten would make a wonderful addition to your family as they are good with children and the elderly.
OriginThe Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier originated in Ireland as a versatile farm dog that was employed as a rodent hunter. However, over time they were also guarding the home and livestock, herding, and even being a bird dog.
